Test C: Battery Charge Indicator Always On
- If engine electrical diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If engine electrical diagnostic system check was not performed, perform ENGINE ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
- Start engine. If charge indicator light remains illuminated after 5 second bulb check, go to next step. If charge indicator light does not remain illuminated after 5 second bulb check, problem is intermittent. Check wiring and connections.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Observe BATTERY VOLTAGE parameter in INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) data list. If voltage is 10-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 10-15 volts, test primary generator. See TEST A: CHARGING SYSTEM TEST under SYSTEM TESTS in GENERATORS & REGULATORS - DEVILLE article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, return to step 2.
