Test As: Traction Off Message Always On/Inoperative
- If Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If ABS diagnostic system check has not been performed, see ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKS.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. Using scan tool, select Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM) data list. Observe TCS SWITCH parameter. If TCS SWITCH parameter is OFF, go to next step. If TCS SWITCH parameter is not OFF, go to step 4.
- Activate traction control switch. Observe TCS SWITCH parameter. If TCS SWITCH parameter does not change, go to next step. If TCS SWITCH parameter changes, problem is intermittent, check wiring and connections.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect traction control switch connector. See TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Observe TCS SWITCH parameter. If TCS SWITCH parameter is not OFF, go to next step. If TCS SWITCH parameter is OFF, go to step 7.
- Check for short to ground in Light Blue wire between traction control switch harness connector terminal "A" without RPO code F45 suspension or terminal "C" with RPO code F45 suspension and IPM connector C2 terminal A11. See Figure and Fig 1 or Fig 2
. If no problems are found, go to next step. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step 10.
- Check for poor connections at IPM connector. See Figure. If no problems are found, go to step 8. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step 10.
- Check for poor connections at traction control switch connector. If no problems are found, go to step 9. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step 10.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 10.
- Replace traction control switch. See TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- After repairs, recheck operation of TRACTION OFF message. If TRACTION OFF message operates properly, repair is complete. If TRACTION OFF message does not operate properly, return to step 2.
