Test AK: Night Vision Display Inoperative

  1. Operate night vision system. See NIGHT VISION  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. If any problems exist, go to next step.
  2. Position vehicle approximately 25 feet (8 meters) from the nearest object. Cover lower windshield with a mat. Cover ambient light sensor. Turn ignition on. Turn headlights on. Turn head-up display (HUD) on. If night vision image does not appear on windshield, go to next step. If night vision video image appears on windshield, check for a faulty connection between night vision camera harness connector and HUD module harness connector.
  3. If night vision display warm-up logo appears on windshield when HUD is turned on, go to next step. If night vision display warm-up logo does not appear on windshield when HUD is turned on, go to step  9.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect night vision camera harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and night vision camera (design 1) 6-pin harness connector terminal "F" (Brown wire) or night vision camera (design 2) 2-pin harness connector C2 terminal "A" (Brown wire). See Fig 1. If about 12 volts does not exist, go to next step. If about 12 volts exists, go to step  6.
  5. Check for an open in Pink wire between night vision camera (design 1) harness connector terminal "A" or night vision camera (design 2) harness connector C2 terminal "A" and HUD module harness connector "F". See Figure and Fig 1 . If no problem was found, go to step  20. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  6. Connect a test light between ground and night vision camera (design 1) 6-pin harness connector terminal "B" (Black/White wire) or night vision camera (design 2) 2-pin harness connector C2 terminal "B" (Black/White wire). Turn ignition on. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  10.
  7. Check for an open or short to battery voltage in Dark Green wire between night vision camera harness connector terminal "D" and HUD module harness connector "L". See Figure and Fig 1 . If no problem was found, go to next step. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  10.
  8. Check for an open or short to battery voltage in Yellow wire between night vision camera harness connector C1 terminal "C" and HUD module harness connector "K". If no problem was found, go to step  19. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  9. Turn ignition off. Connect a scan tool. Turn ignition on. Turn headlights on. Observe HUD dimming parameter in INSTRUMENT PANEL MODULE NON-HVAC data list. If HUD dimming parameter display is not on, go to step  11. If HUD dimming parameter is on, go to step  12.
  10. Repair open in Black/White wire between night vision camera (design 2) harness connector C2 terminal "B"and ground (located at driver's door jamb) or in Black/White wire between night vision camera (design 1) harness connector C1 terminal "E" and ground (located on left radiator support). After repairs, go to step  25.
  11. Check for a short to battery voltage in Orange wire between HUD module harness connector "A" and Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM) harness connector C2 (Clear) terminal B12. See Figure and Figure . If no problem was found, go to step  17. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  12. Turn ignition on. Disconnect HUD. Turn ignition on. Turn HUD on. Connect a test light between positive battery voltage and HUD display switch harness connector terminal "E" (Light Blue wire). See Figure. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  16.
  13. Check open in Black/White wire between night vision camera (design 2) terminal "B"and ground (located at driver's door jamb) or in Black/White wire between night vision camera (design 1) terminal "E" and ground (located on left radiator support). See Fig 1. If no problem was found, go to next step. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  14. Check for an open in Orange wire between HUD module harness connector terminal "A" and Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM) harness connector C2 (Clear) terminal B12. See Figure and Figure . If no problem was found, go to next step. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  15. Check for an open or short to ground in Brown wire between HUD module harness connector terminal "B" and NIGHT VISION fuse (10-amp) in rear fuse block. See Figure and Figure . If no problem was found, go to step  20. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  16. Check for a short to ground in Light Blue wire between HUD switch harness connector terminal "E" and HUD module harness connector terminal "G". See Figure and Figure . If no problem was found, go to step  18. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  17. Check for faulty connections at IPM. If no problem was found, go to step  21. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  18. Check for faulty connections at HUD switch harness connector. If no problem was found, go to step  22. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  19. Check for faulty connections at night vision camera harness connector. If no problem was found, go to step  23. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  20. Check for faulty connections at HUD module harness connector. If no problem was found, go to step  24. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  25.
  21. Replace Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM). See INSTRUMENT PANEL INTEGRATION MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacement, go to step  25.
  22. Replace HUD switch. See HUD SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacement, go to step  25.
  23. Replace night vision camera. See NIGHT VISION CAMERA  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacement, go to step  25.
  24. Replace HUD module. See HUD MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacement, go to next step.
  25. Operate night vision in order to verify repair. If system operates correctly, system is okay at this time. If system does not operate correctly, return to step  2.
