Coolant Temperature Gauge Inaccurate Or Inoperative
- If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Select Powertrain Control Module (PCM) data display. Monitor Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) parameter. If ECT parameter indicates ECT is not the same as engine coolant temperature gauge, go to next step. If ECT parameter indicates ECT is the same as engine coolant temperature gauge, go to POWERTRAIN ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- Recheck temperature gauge operation. If temperature gauge operates properly, repair is complete. If temperature gauge does not operate properly, go to step 2 .
