Vehicle Theft Deterrent System Check

Close all doors, trunk and hood (export only). Turn ignition on. Check SECURITY indicator light. If light turns off after 10 seconds, go to next step. If light does not illuminate, see TEST 6: SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT INOPERATIVE under SYMPTOM TESTS.
Turn ignition switch to START position. After engine starts, release ignition switch to RUN position. If engine starts and SECURITY indicator light remains off, system is okay. If system does not perform as noted, see TEST 6: SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT INOPERATIVE under SYMPTOM TESTS. If engine does not crank, check starting system. See appropriate STARTERS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If engine cranks, but does not start, diagnose no start condition. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
