Lower Ball Joint: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle under lower control arms. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
    2. CAUTION: Ensure floor jack remains under lower control arm during entire removal and installation procedure. Failure to do so could result in serious injury.
  2. Support lower control arm are with floor jack.
  3. Remove half-shaft. Remove brake caliper, and wire aside. Remove cotter pin and nut from lower control arm ball joint. Using (J 39549), break ball joint loose from knuckle. Remove knuckle.
  4. Remove ball joint from lower control arm using Ball Joint Remover/Installer Set (J 41805, J 41435-3 & J 414335-1). Inspect tapered hole in steering knuckle. If hole is out of round, deformed, or damaged, replace knuckle.
