DTC B2419: Twilight Sentinel Photo Sensor Malfunction: Testing

  1. If lighting system diagnostic check has been performed, go to next step. If lighting system diagnostic check has not been performed, perform lighting system diagnostic check. See LIGHTING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - ELDORADO article.
  2. Turn ignition on. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Select IPC data list. Monitor TWILIGHT PHOTO counts. If TWILIGHT PHOTO counts are 1-254, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If TWILIGHT PHOTO counts are not 1-254, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off and disconnect ambient light sensor connector. Turn ignition on and monitor TWILIGHT PHOTO counts. If TWILIGHT PHOTO counts are greater than 254, go to next step. If TWILIGHT PHOTO counts are less than 254, go to step  5 .
  4. Turn ignition off. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ambient light sensor connector terminals. Turn ignition on and monitor TWILIGHT PHOTO counts. If TWILIGHT PHOTO counts are less than one, go to step  6 . If TWILIGHT PHOTO counts are greater than one, go to step  8 .
  5. Check for short to ground in White wire between ambient light sensor and IPC connector C3 terminal C12. See Figure . If circuit is okay, go to step  9 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  12 .
  6. Check for open, short to voltage or high resistance in White wire between ambient light sensor and IPC connector C3 terminal C12. See Figure . If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  12 .
  7. Check for open or high resistance in Black wire between ambient light sensor and IPC connector C3 terminal D14. See Figure . If circuit is okay, go to step  9 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  12 .
  8. Check for poor connections at ambient light sensor terminals. If connections are okay, go to step  10 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  12 .
  9. Check for poor connections at IPC connector terminals. If connections are okay, go to step  11 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  12 .
  10. Replace ambient light sensor. See AMBIENT LIGHT SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  11. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using scan tool, obtain approximate mileage, and contact an authorized Delco service center for transfer of information from failed IPC to replacement IPC. After repairs, go to next step.
  12. Use scan tool to clear DTCs. Recheck twilight sentinel system operation. Recheck for DTC. If DTC B2419 resets, go to step  2 . If DTC does not reset, repair is complete.
