Trunk Open Message Inoperative

  1. If body rear end diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If body rear end diagnostic system check was not performed, go to appropriate diagnostic system check in POWER TRUNK & FUEL DOOR RELEASE - DEVILLE article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Open rear compartment lid (trunk). Using scan tool, select Rear Integration Module (RIM) data list. Monitor TRUNK AJAR SWITCH status. If TRUNK AJAR SWITCH status is OFF, go to next step. If TRUNK AJAR SWITCH status is not OFF, check for intermittent connections or circuits.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect rear compartment lid release actuator connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between rear compartment lid release actuator connector terminals "B" (Black wire) and "C" (Red/Black wire). Turn ignition on. Monitor TRUNK AJAR SWITCH status. If TRUNK AJAR SWITCH status is not OFF, go to next step. If TRUNK AJAR SWITCH status is OFF, go to step  8 .
  4. Check for open in Black wire between rear compartment lid release actuator and ground. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  10 .
  5. Check for open, short to voltage or high resistance in Red/Black wire between rear compartment lid release actuator and RIM connector C1 terminal B3. See Figure . If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  10 .
  6. Check for poor connections at RIM connectors. If connections are okay, go to step  8 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  10 .
  7. Check for poor connections at rear compartment lid release actuator connector. If connections are okay, go to step  9 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  10 .
  8. Replace RIM. See REAR INTEGRATION MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article. After repairs, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace rear compartment lid release actuator. See REAR COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE SOLENOID under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in POWER TRUNK & FUEL DOOR RELEASE - DEVILLE article.
  10. After repairs, recheck operation of TRUNK OPEN message. If TRUNK OPEN message operates properly, repair is complete. If TRUNK OPEN message does not operate properly, go to step  2 .
