Fasten Safety Belt Indicator/Chime Always On

1. If seat belt diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If seat belt diagnostic system check was not performed, go to SEAT BELT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Buckle driver's seat belt. Using scan tool, select inflatable restraint Sensing And Diagnostic Module (SDM) data list. Monitor DRIVER SEAT BELT STATUS. If DRIVER SEAT BELT STATUS is BUCKLED, go to next step. If DRIVER SEAT BELT STATUS is not BUCKLED, go to step  4 .
3. Turn ignition off and back on. This will activate Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) bulb check. Observe fasten seat belt indicator during the bulb check. If fasten seat belt indicator illuminates during bulb check and then turns off, check for intermittent connections or faulty circuits. If fasten seat belt indicator does not illuminate during bulb check and then turn off, go to step  10 .
4. Turn ignition off. Unbuckle driver's seat belt. Disconnect left front seat belt switch connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between left front seat belt switch connector terminals. Turn ignition on. Monitor DRIVER SEAT BELT STATUS. If DRIVER SEAT BELT STATUS is not BUCKLED, go to next step. If DRIVER SEAT BELT STATUS is BUCKLED, go to step  8 .
5. Check for open or high resistance in Dark Blue wire between air bag Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) connector terminal A16 and seat belt switch connector. See Fig 1 . If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  12 .
6. Check for open, short to voltage or high resistance in Black/White wire between SDM connector terminal A15 and seat belt switch connector. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  12 .
7. Check for poor connections at SDM connector. If connections are okay, go to step  9 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  12 .
8. Check for poor connections at left seat belt switch connector. If connections are okay, go to step  11 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  12 .
9. Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article. After repairs, go to step  12 .
10. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  12 .
11. Replace left front seat belt switch. After repairs, go to next step.
12. After repairs, recheck operation of indicator. If indicator operates properly, repair is complete. If indicator does not operate properly, go to step  2 .
