Door Ajar Message Inoperative

NOTE: This procedure diagnoses DRIVER DOOR AJAR, PASSENGER DOOR AJAR, LEFT REAR DOOR AJAR and RIGHT REAR DOOR AJAR messages.
  1. If power door diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If power door diagnostic system check has been performed, go to POWER DOOR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Select DOOR MODULE INPUTS list on scan tool. Open suspect door. Monitor DRIVER DOOR AJAR SW, PASS DOOR AJAR SW, LH REAR DOOR AJAR SW or RH REAR DOOR AJAR SW status. If suspect DOOR AJAR SW status is OFF, go to next step. If suspect DOOR AJAR SW status is not OFF, check for intermittent connections or faulty circuits.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove door panel for suspect door. Disconnect suspect door lock actuator 4-pin connector C1. See Figure . Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between terminals of suspect door lock actuator connector.
    • Driver's door lock actuator connector terminals "B" (Gray/Black wire) and "D" (Black/White wire).
    • Left rear door lock actuator connector terminals "B" (Light Blue/Black wire) and "D" (Tan/White wire).
    • Passenger's door lock actuator connector terminals "A" (Black/White wire) and "C" (Black/White wire).
    • Right rear door lock actuator connector terminals "A" (Black/White wire) and "C" (Light Green/Black wire).
Turn ignition on. Monitor suspect DOOR AJAR SW status. If suspect DOOR AJAR SW status is OFF, go to next step. If suspect DOOR AJAR SW status is not OFF, go to step  7 .
  4. Check for open in suspect door ajar switch ground circuit.
    • Black/White wire between driver's door lock actuator connector terminal "D" and driver's door module connector C3 terminal B10.
    • Tan/White wire between left rear door lock actuator connector terminal "D" and left rear door module connector C3 terminal B10.
    • Black/White wire between passenger's door lock actuator connector terminal "A" and passenger's door module connector C3 terminal B10.
    • Black/White wire between right rear door lock actuator connector terminal "A" and right rear door module connector C3 terminal B10.

If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  10 .

  5. Check for open, short to ground or short to voltage in one of the following circuits for suspect door ajar switch. See Figure .
    • Gray/Black wire between driver's door lock actuator connector terminal "B" and driver's door module connector C2 terminal "H".
    • Light Blue/Black wire between left rear door lock actuator connector terminal "B" and left rear door module connector C2 terminal "H".
    • Black/White wire between passenger's door lock actuator connector terminal "C" and passenger's door module connector C2 terminal "H".
    • Light Green/Black wire between right rear door lock actuator connector terminal "C" and right rear door module connector C2 terminal "H".

If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  10 .

  6. Check for poor connections at connector C2 of suspect door module. If connections are okay, go to step  8 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  10 .
  7. Check for poor connections at suspect door lock actuator. If connections are okay, go to step  9 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  10 .
  8. Replace suspect door module. See DOOR MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article. After repairs, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace suspect door lock actuator. See DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in POWER DOOR LOCKS - DEVILLE article. After repairs, go to next step.
  10. After repairs, recheck operation of DOOR AJAR message. If message operates properly, repair is complete. If message does not operate properly, go to step  2 .
