Check Coolant Level Message Always On
- If cooling system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If cooling system diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to COOLING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) data list. Monitor LOW COOLANT LEVEL status. If LOW COOLANT LEVEL status is OK, go to next step. If LOW COOLANT LEVEL status is not OK, check for intermittent connections or faulty circuit for low coolant level switch.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect coolant level switch located on bottom of coolant reservoir. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between coolant level switch connector terminals. Turn ignition on. Monitor LOW COOLANT LEVEL status. If LOW COOLANT LEVEL status is OK, go to next step. If LOW COOLANT LEVEL status is not OK, go to step 7 .
- Check for open or high resistance in Black wire between coolant level switch and ground. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step 10 .
- Check for an open, short to voltage or high resistance in Light Green wire between coolant level switch and IPC connector C2 terminal B3. See Figure . If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step 10 .
- Check for poor connections at IPC connector. If connections are okay, go to step 8 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step 10 .
- Check for poor connections at coolant level switch connector. If connections are okay, go to step 9 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step 10 .
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 10 .
- Coolant level switch is not serviceable, replace coolant reservoir. After repairs, go to next step.
- After repairs, recheck operation of CHECK COOLANT LEVEL message. If message operates properly, repair is complete. If message does not operate properly, go to step 2 .
