Brake Indicator Always On

  1. If brakes diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If brakes diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to BRAKES DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Inspect brake fluid level. If brake fluid level is okay, go to next step. If brake fluid level is low, top off fluid level and check for worn brake pads or brake fluid leak.
  3. Turn ignition on. Disengage parking brake. Using scan tool, select IPC INPUTS data list. Monitor PARK BRAKE SWITCH status. If PARK BRAKE SWITCH status is not ON, go to next step. If PARK BRAKE SWITCH status is ON, go to step  5 .
  4. Using scan tool, monitor LOW BRAKE FLUID status. If LOW BRAKE FLUID status is ON, go to step  6 . If LOW BRAKE FLUID status is not ON, go to step  7 .
  5. Disconnect parking brake warning light switch connector located on parking brake pedal assembly. Using scan tool, monitor PARK BRAKE SWITCH status. If PARK BRAKE SWITCH status is ON, go to step  8 . If PARK BRAKE SWITCH status is not ON, go to step  12 .
  6. Disconnect brake fluid level switch located on bottom of master cylinder brake fluid reservoir. Using scan tool, monitor LOW BRAKE FLUID status. If LOW BRAKE FLUID status is ON, go to step  9 . If LOW BRAKE FLUID status is not ON, go to step  13 .
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between brake fluid level switch connector terminal "A" (Purple wire) and ground. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor LOW BRAKE FLUID status. If LOW BRAKE FLUID status is not ON, go to step  10 . If LOW BRAKE FLUID status is ON, go to step  11 .
  8. Turn ignition off. Check for short to ground in Black and Light Blue wire between parking brake warning light switch and IPC connector C2 terminal B1. See Figure . If circuit is okay, go to step  14 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  18 .
  9. Turn ignition off. Check for short to ground in Purple wire between brake fluid level switch and IPC connector C2 terminal B4. If circuit is okay, go to step  14 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  18 .
  10. Check for short to voltage, open or high resistance in Purple wire between brake fluid level switch and IPC connector C2 terminal B4. If circuit is okay, go to step  14 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  18 .
  11. Check for short to voltage, open or high resistance in Black/White wire between brake fluid level switch and ground. If circuit is okay, go to step  13 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  18 .
  12. Check for poor connections at parking brake warning light switch connector. If connections are okay, go to step  15 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  18 .
  13. Check for poor connections at brake fluid level switch connector. If connections are okay, go to step  16 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  18 .
  14. Check for poor connections at IPC connectors. If connections are okay, go to step  17 . If faulty connections are found and repaired, go to step  18 .
  15. Replace parking brake warning light switch. After repairs, go to step  18 .
  16. Replace brake fluid level switch. After repairs, go to step  18 .
  17. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  18. After repairs, recheck operation of brake indicator. If indicator operates properly, repair is complete. If indicator does not operate properly, go to step  2 .
