Instrument Panel Cluster
Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) consists of either an electronic or analog cluster. See Fig 1 or Fig 2 . IPC has capability to diagnose malfunctions in various sensors, input switches, components and systems.
On analog IPC, gauges include speedometer, tachometer, fuel level and coolant temperature. On electronic IPC, gauges include speedometer, fuel level and coolant temperature. Tachometer is available through driver's information functions. See DRIVER'S INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAY under OPERATION. On both IPCs, indicators include LIGHTS ON, high beams, foglights, coolant temperature, oil pressure, charging system, SECURITY, CRUISE, ABS, SERVICE ENGINE SOON, BRAKE, seat belt, TRACTION CONTROL and AIR BAG.
IPC contains a microprocessor as part of the instrument panel assembly. IPC can recognize operational malfunctions, alert driver through indicators or Driver Information Center (DIC) messages, and store DTCs which identify malfunction areas. Some indicator lights and IPC messages have dual controls.
