Test K: Fuel Cap Missing Indicator Inoperative
- If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Engine Control Module (ECM) harness connector C2. Turn ignition on. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and ECM harness connector C2 terminal No. 33 (Gray wire). If FUEL CAP indicator is on, go to next step. If FUEL CAP indicator is not on, go to step 4 .
- Inspect ECM harness connector C2 terminal No. 33 for poor connection. Repair connector as necessary and go to step 8 . If connector is okay, go to step 5 .
- Check for open in fuel cap indicator control circuit (Gray wire) between ECM harness connector C2 terminal No. 22 and instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 3. See Figure . Repair circuit as necessary and go to step 8 . If circuit is okay, go to step 6 .
- Replace ECM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Go to step 8 .
- Inspect instrument cluster harness connector for poor connections. Repair connector as necessary and go to step 8 . If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If symptom still exists, go to step 2 . If symptom does not exist, system is okay.
