Test F: Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Inaccurate/Inoperative

CAUTION: Ensure engine oil level is correct and engine has sufficient oil pressure before performing test.
  1. Ensure engine oil level is full. Run engine to operating temperature. Turn engine off. Remove oil pressure gauge switch. Install appropriate oil pressure testing gauge into engine. Start engine and let it idle. Minimum oil pressure should be 21.7 psi (150 kPa) at idle. If oil pressure is as specified, go to next step. If oil pressure is not as specified, diagnose and repair low oil pressure problem. See appropriate article in ENGINES.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Blue/Yellow wire from oil pressure gauge switch. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and Blue/Yellow wire at oil pressure gauge switch harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect a 175-200 ohm resistor between ground and Blue/Yellow wire at oil pressure gauge switch harness connector. Turn ignition on. If oil pressure gauge reading is 60-80 psi, go to step  5 . If oil pressure gauge reading is not 60-80 psi, go to step  6 .
  4. Check for open in Blue/Yellow wire between oil pressure gauge switch harness connector and gauge cluster harness connector terminal No. 26. See Figure . Repair circuit as necessary and go to step  7 . If circuit is okay, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace oil pressure gauge switch. Go to step  7 .
  6. Inspect gauge cluster harness connector for poor connections. Repair connector as necessary and go to next step. If connector is okay, go to step  8 .
  7. Reconnect all harness connectors and reinstall all components. Check oil pressure gauge operation. If oil pressure gauge operates properly, system is okay. If oil pressure gauge does not operate properly, go to step  2 .
  8. Replace gauge cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  7 .
