Test D: Oil Pressure Gauge Always Low (Oil Pressure Warning Off With Low Oil Pressure)

  1. Diagnose and repair low oil pressure condition. See appropriate article in ENGINES. Go to next step.
  2. Disconnect Blue/Green wire from oil pressure gauge switch. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and Blue/Green wire at oil pressure gauge switch harness connector. Start engine and let it idle (less than 1000 RPM). If oil pressure warning light is on, go to next step. If oil pressure warning light is not on, go to step  4 .
  3. Increase engine speed to more than 1000 RPM. If oil pressure warning buzzer operates, go to step  5 . If oil pressure warning buzzer does not operate, go to step  6 .
  4. Check for open in Blue/Green wire between oil pressure gauge switch and gauge cluster harness connector terminal No. 15. See Figure . Repair circuit as necessary and go to step  7 . If circuit is okay, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace oil pressure gauge switch. Go to step  7 .
  6. Remove instrument cluster. Check oil pressure warning light bulb. Check gauge cluster harness connector for poor connections. Repair as necessary and go to next step. If no problems are found, go to step  8 .
  7. Reconnect all harness connectors and reinstall all components. Check operation of oil pressure warning light and buzzer. If warning light and buzzer operate properly, system is okay. If warning light or buzzer does not operate properly, go to next step.
  8. Replace gauge cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. System is okay.
