Test C: Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Inoperative/Inaccurate
- If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Select SPECIAL FUNCTIONS from INSTRUMENT CLUSTER menu. Using scan tool, command coolant temperature gauge from "H" to "C". If coolant temperature gauge responds as commanded, go to next step. If coolant temperature gauge does not respond as commanded, go to step 4 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 20-pin in-line connector C105 (White). Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and in-line connector C105 terminal No. 15 (Blue wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to step 5 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 6 .
- Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 8 .
- Check for open in Blue wire between connector C105 terminal No. 15 and connector C115 terminal No. 1. Repair circuit as necessary and go to step 8 . If circuit is okay, go to step 7 .
- Check for open in Blue wire between connector C105 terminal No. 15 and instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 21. See Figure . Repair circuit as necessary and go to step 8 . If circuit is okay, go to step 4 .
- Replace engine coolant temperature gauge sensor. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all harness connectors and reinstall all components. Check operation of coolant temperature gauge. If coolant temperature gauge operates properly, system is okay. If coolant temperature gauge does not operate properly, go to step 2 .
