Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool does not power up, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CATERA article. If scan tool powers up, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communication with instrument cluster. If scan tool communicates with instrument cluster, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with instrument cluster, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH KEYWORD 82 &/OR KEYWORD 2000 DATA LINE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CATERA article.
  3. Select INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DISPLAY DTCs function on scan tool. If scan tool displays any DTCs, perform appropriate test. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DTC INDEX  table. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, diagnose system by symptom. See SYSTEM TESTS  .

14  Coolant Temperature Low
51  Reprogram Cluster Or Cluster Malfunction
52  Reprogram Cluster
167  Fuel Gauge Voltage Low
168  Fuel Gauge Voltage High
(1) Perform appropriate test under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
