Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If scan tool communicates with Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), go to next step. If scan tool will not communicate with IPC, go to step 3.
- Select IPC DTC function on scan tool display. If any DTCs are stored, go to appropriate DTC diagnosis and repair procedure under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS . If no DTCs are stored, go to appropriate diagnostic procedure.
- Attempt to establish communications with other control modules (BCM, PCM, RFA, etc.). If scan tool communicates with other modules, but not with IPC, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with any module, locate and repair Class 2 serial data line. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - SEVILLE article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect a DVOM to ground and probe IPC fuse in underhood junction block for voltage. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . If reading is 10.5-12.5 volts, go to next step. If reading is not 10.5-12.5 volts, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect IPC electrical connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect a DVOM to ground and probe IPC harness connector C-2 terminals A1 (Orange wire) and A3 (Pink wire) for voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If reading are 10.5-12.5 volts, go to next step. If readings are not 10.5-12.5 volts, go to step 9.
- With ignition switch in ON position, use DVOM to measure resistance between ground and IPC harness connector C-2 terminals B6 (Black/White wire) and B7 (Black wire). If 0.0-0.5 ohms is indicated, go to step 8. If 0.0-0.5 ohms is not indicated, go to step 10.
- Repair open in battery feed to IPC fuse in underhood junction block. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in circuits connected to fuse. Go to step 1.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 1.
- Locate and repair open in IPC power feed circuit. Go to step 1.
- Locate and repair open in IPC ground circuit. Go to step 1.
