DTC U1016: Loss Of Serial Communications - Pcm: Testing

  1. If multiple class 2 DTCs are set as current (i.e., U1300, U1301, U1088 or U1153), check for an intermittent short to ground or battery in Purple wire between individual control modules. Refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  2. If DTC is current, use a scan tool and attempt to establish communication with PCM. If communication cannot be established, diagnose and repair problem in PCM system. See procedures in TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If communication can be established, replace IPC. See procedures in INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform procedures in IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  3. If DTC is history, check for intermittent open in Purple wire between individual control modules. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
