DTC B2781: Pass-Key(R) II Wrong Resistor Value After Good: Testing

  1. If IPC diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If IPC diagnostic system check was not performed, go to procedures in IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Connect PASS-Key(R) II (VATS) Interrogator (J35628-A) and turn it on. Insert ignition key into PASS-Key(R) II interrogator's ignition switch. If key code reader displays a value of 1 to 15, go to step 4). If key code reader does not display a value of 1 to 15, go to next step.
  3. Perform procedure for replacement of lost PASS-Key(R) II ignition keys. See ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM article. Perform procedures in IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  4. Wait 3 minutes. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check for DTCs. If DTC B2781 is current, go to step 7). If DTC B2781 is not current, go to next step.
  5. If ignition key is damaged, replace key. Perform procedures in IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . If ignition key is okay, perform IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK.
  6. Wait 3 minutes. Using another valid vehicle ignition key, turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check for DTCs. If DTC B2781 is current, go to next step. If DTC B2781 is not current, perform procedures in IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  7. Check for poor connections in White/Black wire or Purple/White wire between IPC Blue 24-pin connector C1 and ignition lock cylinder. Also check for poor connections at ignition switch. Repair as necessary. If connections are okay, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
