DTC B1910: Generator "L" Terminal Open Circuit: Testing

  1. If IPC diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If IPC diagnostic system check was not performed, go to procedures in IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, check IPC data list input for ALT L TERMINAL. If scan tool does not display ON, go to next step. If scan tool displays ON, go to step 5).
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect IPC Blue 24-pin connector C1. Disconnect generator. Using DVOM, check resistance of Red wire between IPC connector C1, terminal A9 and generator "L" terminal. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Red wire between IPC connector C1 and generator. Perform IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  4. Reconnect IPC connector C1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using DVOM, check voltage between generator connector "L" terminal (Red wire) and ground. If voltage is not greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, locate and repair problem in charging system. See GENERATOR & REGULATOR article in ELECTRICAL section.
  5. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
