Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Inoperative/Inaccurate

  1. Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Go to next step.
  2. Install scan to DLC. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Select SPECIAL FUNCTIONS from the INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER MENU on scan tool display. Command coolant temperature gauge from "C" (Cold) to "H" (Hot). If gauge responds as specified, go to next step. If gauge does not respond as specified, go to step 6).
  3. Disconnect connector C105. C105 is a White connector located in the engine compartment behind the battery. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Use DVOM to measure voltage between ground and connector C105 terminal No. 11 (Blue wire). If battery voltage is indicated, go to step 5). If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step 6).
  4. Replace and program the instrument cluster. See procedures in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  5. Check for open in Blue wire between connector C105 terminal No. 11 and coolant temperature gauge sender terminal No. 1. If problem was found and repaired, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . If circuit is okay, go to step 7).
  6. Locate and repair open in Blue wire between connector C105 terminal No. 11 and coolant temperature gauge sensor terminal No. 1. If problem was found and repaired, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . If circuit is okay, go to step 4).
  7. Replace engine coolant temperature gauge sensor. Go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
