Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, display TWILIGHT PHOTO percentage. Using a dark rag, cover twilight photocell. If twilight photo percentage is 100% or more, go to step 5). If twilight photocell percentage is less than 100%, remove dark rag and go to next step.
  2. Shine a light on twilight photocell. If percentage reading on scan tool goes to 0% (zero percent), go to next step. If percentage reading does not go to 0% (zero percent), check twilight photocell connector terminals for good connections. If connection is okay, replace twilight photocell.
  3. Disconnect twilight photocell. Measure voltage between twilight photocell connector terminal A (White wire) and ground. If voltage is approximately 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 5 volts, locate and repair open or short to voltage in White wire. If White wire is okay, replace IPC.
  4. Using a DVOM, measure resistance while covering twilight photocell and again when shining a light to it. If resistance varies between 0-2.2 ohms, replace IPC. If resistance does not vary as specified, replace twilight photocell.
  5. Disconnect twilight photocell. Measure voltage between twilight photocell connector terminal A (White wire) and ground. If voltage is approximately 5 volts, check continuity to ground in connector terminal B (Black wire). If continuity is okay, replace twilight photocell. If voltage is not 5 volts, go to next step.
  6. If voltage is greater than 5 volts, locate and repair short to voltage in White wire. If voltage is between 0-4 volts, replace IPC. If voltage is not between 0-4 volts, check White wire for an open or short. If White wire is okay, replace twilight photocell.
