Code 31 - Lift/Dive Signal Error: Notes

SSS control module applies voltage reference signal to PCM. When PCM detects a lift or dive condition due to sharp acceleration or deceleration, it grounds voltage reference signal from SSS control module. This pulls the voltage signal low. SSS control module then commands actuators to FIRM mode. When lift or dive condition is no longer present, PCM stops grounding voltage reference signal, causing the voltage reference signal to go back to high. SSS control module then commands actuators to original mode setting.

If SSS control module does not detect this low-to-high transition within 15 seconds after ignition is turned on, it suspects a lift/dive signal error, but does not set code until test has failed on the second consecutive ignition cycle. If code sets, SSS control module turns on the SERVICE RIDE CONTROL message on the driver information center. System recovers upon successful completion of lift/dive signal retest at beginning of next ignition cycle.
