Self-Diagnostic System: Operation

When ignition is turned on, system performs a self-test that lasts for 7.5 seconds. During this self-test, an error light on the SSS control module comes on. Error light is next to connector. After self-test, SSS control module goes into one of the following modes:

• Normal Mode Error light is on at speeds less than 10 MPH and off at speeds greater than 10 MPH to indicate proper operation of system and to verify SSS control module is receiving vehicle speed signal.
• Error Mode Error light is off at speeds less than 10 MPH and on at speeds greater than 10 MPH.
• Reset Mode Error light is off, indicating a problem exists in SSS control module.

Any system error that is active for 2 consecutive ignition cycles will cause a SERVICE RIDE CONTROL message to be displayed on driver information center. The only exception is Code 32 which indicates lateral acceleration switch error. Code 32 is flagged immediately. The message will be displayed as long as code is active. If fault corrects itself, SERVICE RIDE CONTROL message will no longer be displayed, but code will be retained in SSS control module non-volatile memory.

In diagnostics, codes are read via error light. If a code is set, a one-second self-diagnostic test is performed at 3-minute intervals. Error light will be on during this test and will go out if fault is corrected. If fault still exists, light will be off at speeds less than 10 MPH and on at speeds greater than 10 MPH.
