Vehicles with standard speedometer cluster use a quartz mechanism to control movement of a swing needle indicator. Speed sensor sends electrical pulses to a buffer amplifier. Buffer amplifier sends electrical pulses to a quartz mechanism in the speedometer, which converts them to mechanical movement.
