SUBJECT: AIR CONDITIONING HISSING NOISE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 CIMARRONS EQUIPPED WITH 2.8L V-6 ENGINE

Air Conditioning System:

Some 1985 Cimarrons equipped with a 2.8L V-6 engine may experience a hissing noise shortly after startup during idle and low speed operation with the A/C compressor engaged. To eliminate this condition the orifice tube was relocated toward the condensor on 1986 2.8L V-6 model Cimarrons. To correct this condition on 1985 Cimarron's equipped with the 2.8L V-6 engine the following procedure should be utilized.

CAUTION: Before any service is attempted which requires opening refrigerant lines or components, the technician doing the work should be thoroughly familiar with the information under PRECAUTIONS IN HANDLING REFRIGERANT-12, PRECAUTIONS IN HANDLING REFRIGERANT LINES AND FITTINGS, MAINTAINING CHEMICAL STABILITY IN THE REFRIGERANT SYSTEM, REFRIGERANT CHARGING PRECAUTIONS and DISCHARGING, ADDING OIL, EVACUATING AND CHARGING PROCEDURES FOR A/C SYSTEMS in the Cimarron Service Manual, Section 1B.

1. Discharge A/C system as described in the Cimarron Service Information Manual, Section 1B.
