Rocker Arm Assembly: Removal

  1. Remove air cleaner. Remove filters and pipes from rocker arm covers and air crossover. Remove air crossover and cap intake manifold with cover screens (J-26996-2 for Calif. models, and J-26996-10 for Federal models). Disconnect throttle rod and return spring. Remove bellcrank.
  2. Remove throttle and transmission TV cables from brackets and position aside. Remove fuel filter line and fuel filter. Disconnect fuel line at pump. If equipped with A/C, remove rear compressor brace. Remove fuel line. Disconnect fuel return line at injection pump and injection pump lines at nozzles. Remove rocker arm cover, rocker arm flanged bolts, pivots and rocker arms. Remove each set (1 set per cylinder) as a unit.
