Check Crankshaft End Play

- Clean all sealant surfaces from the engine block.
- NOTE:
- Ensure that the guide lugs (1) are properly seated in their hole (4).
- If the old crankshaft bearing is reused, install it in the same position as removed.
Crankshaft Upper Bearing (2, 3) - Install [3x]
- NOTE:
If the old crankshaft bearing is reused, install it in the same position as removed.
Crankshaft Thrust Bearing (1) - Install
Crankshaft (1) - Install
Check the 2 crankshaft thrust bearings (1) for proper seat.
- NOTE:
- The check is conducted with the crankshaft bearings installed in the cylinder block and the flywheel is removed. The crankshaft is only loosely fitted in the cylinder block.
- If the value for the crankshaft end play does not correspond with the permissible crankshaft end play, regrind the crankcase seat and use suitable oversize thrust bearings. For oversize thrust bearings, refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
Install the EN-571-B Dial Gauge (2) with the bracket (1) to the transmission side of the engine block.
- Measure the crankshaft end play. For permissible crankshaft end play, refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
- If necessary, remove the crankshaft:
- NOTE:
Mark the installation position of the crankshaft upper bearings and the thrust bearings. Lay aside in the order removed.
Crankshaft (1) - Remove
- Crankshaft Upper Bearing (3) - Remove [3x]
- Crankshaft Thrust Bearing (2) - Remove
