Check Crankshaft Bearing Clearance with Plastigage
- Clean all sealant surfaces from the engine block.
- NOTE:
- Ensure that the guide lugs (1) are properly seated in their hole (4).
- If the old crankshaft bearing is reused, install it in the same position as removed.
Crankshaft Upper Bearing (2, 3) - Install [3x]
- NOTE:
If the old crankshaft bearing is reused, install it in the same position as removed.
Crankshaft Thrust Bearing (1) - Install
Crankshaft (1) - Install
- NOTE:
Do NOT rotate the crankshaft.
Apply 3 plastigage, flexible plastic thread, axially over the entire width of the crankshaft bearing journal (1).
- NOTE:
- Ensure that the guide lugs (1) are properly seated.
- If the old crankshaft bearing is reused, install it in the same position as removed.
Crankshaft Lower Bearing (2) - Install [4x]
- NOTE:
Install the crankshaft bearing caps in the same position as removed.
Crankshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Install [4x]
- Crankshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Install [8x] - Crankshaft and Bearing Installation
- Crankshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [8x]
- Crankshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Remove [4x]
- NOTE:
- Mind the guide lug (1) for the installation procedure.
- Mark the installation position of the crankshaft lower bearing. Lay aside in the order removed.
Crankshaft Lower Bearing (2) - Remove [4x]
- NOTE:
When reading the value on the measuring scale, do NOT confuse millimeters with inches.
Measure the crankshaft bearing play.
- Compare the width of the flattened plastic thread (1) to the measuring scale (2).
- For the permissible crankshaft bearing clearance, refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
- NOTE:
Mark the installation position of the crankshaft upper bearings and the thrust bearings. Organize the components in the order removed.
Crankshaft (1) - Remove
- Crankshaft Upper Bearing (3) - Remove [3x]
- Crankshaft Thrust Bearing (2) - Remove
Organize the components in the order removed.
