Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Buick Regal and 2019 Buick Regal. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Transfer components as necessary.
  2. If the removed transmission will be reinstalled, clean the threads of the torque converter.
    3. NOTE:

    A second technician is required.

  3. Raise the transmission with the transmission jack and position the transmission to the engine.

    CAUTION:

    Fastener Caution

    Install the transmission bolt (1) and tighten a first pass to 10 N.m (89 lb in), in order to align the transmission and the engine flush.

    Transmission Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 58 N.m (43 lb ft)

    Tighten the transmission bolt a final pass to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

  7. Remove the transmission jack.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Raise the engine/transmission unit into original position, using the EN-51007  fixture.

    CAUTION:

    Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution

    Install 4 NEW transmission mount to transmission bolts (1) and tighten a first pass to 100 N.m (74 lb ft)

  11. Tighten the 4 NEW transmission mount to transmission bolts (1) a final pass to 60 - 75 degrees, using the EN-45059  meter.
  12. Engine Support Fixture - Remove - Engine Support Fixture
  13. Raise the vehicle.

    Torque Converter @ Flex Plate - Install

    1. Turn the engine at the crankshaft balancer (2) clockwise (arrow) with a suitable tool (3), until a torque converter thread shows up.
      2. NOTE:

      Service may offer bolts without micro-encapsulated thread locking adhesive. If this is the case, apply thread locking adhesive to the bolt.

    2. Install the first NEW torque converter bolt (1) and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
    3. Turn the engine at the crankshaft balancer clockwise 120 degrees.
    4. Install the second NEW torque converter bolt and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
    5. Repeat the previous 2 steps for the third torque converter bolt.
  15. Starter - Install - Starter Replacement (2.0L LTG)

    Transmission Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 58 N.m (43 lb ft)

    Wiring Harness (3) & Engine Control Module and Engine Wiring Harness Bracket (2) - Reposition

  19. Engine Control Module and Engine Wiring Harness Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 22 N.m (16 lb ft)
  20. Power Transfer Unit Case - Install - Power Transfer Unit Case Replacement

    Remove the left drive shaft (1) from the hoist (3).

  22. Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft-Left Side @ Transmission - Connect - Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side

    Remove the right drive shaft (2) from the hoist (1).

  24. Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft-Right Side @ Transfer Case - Connect - Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side (AWD)
  25. Oil Pump Flow Control Valve Heat Shield - Install - Oil Pump Flow Control Valve Heat Shield Replacement
  26. Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe - Install - Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement (9T50/9T60)
  27. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe - Install - Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe Replacement (9T50/9T60)
  28. Transmission Rear Mount Bracket - Install - Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement 
  29. Transmission Front Mount - Install - Transmission Front Mount Replacement 
  30. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle - Install - Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LTG)
  31. Propeller Shaft - Install - Propeller Shaft Replacement
  32. Exhaust Front Pipe - Install - Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LTG AWD)
  33. Lower the vehicle.

    Transmission Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 58 N.m (43 lb ft)

    Generator and Starter Cable Bracket (2) - Reposition

  36. Transmission Bolt (3) - Install and tighten 58 N.m (43 lb ft)
  37. Transmission Stud (1) - Install and tighten [2x] 58 N.m (43 lb ft)

    Battery Negative Cable (1) - Reposition

  39. Battery Negative Cable Ground Bolt (2) - Install and tighten 22 N.m (16 lb ft)

    Wiring Harness (4) - Reposition

  41. Wiring Harness Retainer (3) @ Transmission Control Module Bracket - Install
  42. Electrical Connector (2) @ Transmission - Connect
  43. Electrical Connector (1) @ Transmission Control Module - Connect

    Wiring Harness (5) - Reposition

  45. Wiring Harness Retainer (6) @ Control Valve Body Cover Stud - Install
  46. Wiring Harness Retainer (4) @ Transmission Control Module Bracket - Install
  47. Wiring Harness Retainer (2) @ Transmission Case - Install
  48. Electrical Connector (3) @ Engine Coolant Fan - Connect
  49. Input Speed Sensor Electrical Connector (1) - Connect
  50. Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bracket - Install - Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bracket Replacement

    Range Selector Lever Cable (1) - Reposition

  52. Range Selector Lever Cable (1) @ Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bracket (3) - Install
  53. Range Selector Lever Cable (1) @ Range Selector Lever Cable Lever (4) - Install
  54. Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bolt (2) - Install and tighten 9 N.m (80 lb in)
  55. Range Selector Lever Cable - Adjust - Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment

    Wiring Harness (2) & Engine Control Module and Engine Wiring Harness Bracket (4) - Reposition

  57. Engine Control Module and Engine Wiring Harness Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 22 N.m (16 lb ft)
  58. Electrical Connector (3) @ Automatic Transmission Auxiliary Fluid Accumulator - Connect

    Battery Positive Cable (4) & Generator and Starter Cable Bracket (5) - Reposition

  60. Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 22 N.m (16 lb ft)
  61. Battery Positive Cable Clip (2) @ Engine Control Module and Engine Wiring Harness Bracket (3) - Install
  62. Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube - Install - Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube Replacement
  63. Battery Tray - Install - Battery Tray Replacement
  64. Transmission Fluid - Fill - Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill 
  65. Run all necessary programming and setup procedures. Control Module References
  66. Road test the vehicle.
