Circuit/System Testing
All Controls Malfunction
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right. It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Test for less than 10Ω between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
- If greater than 10Ω
- Ignition OFF.
- Test for less than 2Ω in the ground circuit end to end.
- If 2Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
- If less than 10Ω
- Ignition ON.
- Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 8 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is good
- Ignition OFF.
- Test for less than 2Ω in the control circuit end to end.
- If greater than 2Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2Ω, verify the fuse is not open and there is voltage at the fuse.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is open
- Ignition OFF.
- Test for infinite resistance between the B+ circuit terminal 8 and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance, replace the S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right.
- If the test lamp illuminates
- Test for 2-10V between the serial data circuit terminal 7 and ground.
- If less than 2V
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P16 Instrument Cluster.
- Test for infinite resistance between the serial data circuit and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2Ω in the serial data circuit end to end.
- If 2Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2Ω, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.
- If greater than 10V
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P16 Instrument Cluster, ignition ON.
- Test for less than 1V between the serial data circuit and ground.
- If 1V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1V, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.
- If between 2-10V
- Test or replace S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right
S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right Malfunction with UV6
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right. It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Test for less than 10Ω between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
- If greater than 10Ω
- Ignition OFF, test for less than 2Ω in the ground circuit end to end.
- If 2Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
- If less than 10Ω
- Ignition ON.
- Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 8 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is good
- Ignition OFF.
- Test for less than 2Ω in the control circuit end to end.
- If greater than 2Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2Ω, verify the fuse is not open and there is voltage at the fuse.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate and the circuit fuse is open
- Ignition OFF.
- Test for infinite resistance between the B+ circuit terminal 8 and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance, replace the S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right.
- If the test lamp illuminates
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P29 Head-Up Display, ignition ON.
- Test for 2-10V between the S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right serial data circuit terminal 7 and ground.
- If less than 2V
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P16 Instrument Cluster.
- Test for infinite resistance between the S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right serial data circuit terminal 7 and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance
- Test for infinite resistance between the P29 Head-Up Display serial data circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2Ω in the S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right serial data circuit end to end.
- If 2Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2Ω, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.
- If greater than 10V
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P16 Instrument Cluster, ignition ON.
- Test for less than 1V between the S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right serial data circuit terminal 7 and ground.
- If 1V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1V.
- Test for less than 1V between the P29 Head-Up Display serial data circuit terminal 1 serial data circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If 1V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1V, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.
- If between 2-10V
- Connect the harness connector at the S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right. Ignition ON.
- Verify steering wheel controls function properly.
- If steering wheel controls function properly
Replace P29 Head-Up Display.
- If steering wheel controls do not function properly
- If steering wheel controls function properly
- Ignition OFF. Disconnect harness connector at the S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right. Connect the harness connector at the and P29 Head-Up Display. Ignition ON.
- Verify head-up display functions properly.
- If head-up display functions properly
Replace S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right.
- If head-up display does not function properly
- If head-up display functions properly
- Replace P16 Instrument Cluster.
Left Controls Malfunction
- Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S70L Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Left.
- Test for less than 10Ω between the ground circuit terminal 10 and ground.
- If greater than 10Ω
- Ignition OFF.
- Test for less than 2Ω in the ground circuit end to end.
- If 2Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
- If less than 10Ω
- Test for 4.8-5.2V between the volt between the following signal circuits and ground
- Voice - Terminal 6
- Mute - Terminal 5
- If less than 4.8V
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P16 Instrument Cluster.
- Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2Ω in the signal circuit end to end.
- If 2Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2Ω, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.
- If greater than 5.2V
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P16 Instrument Cluster, ignition ON.
- Test for less than 1V between the signal circuit and ground.
- If 1V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1V, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.
- If between 4.8-5.2V
- Replace the S70L Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Left.
