Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Buick LaCrosse and 2005 Buick Allure. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (L26) in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  4. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement (3.8L)  or Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement (3.6L (LY7) .
  5. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement (3.8L) .

  6. Remove the electrical connector (4) from the power steering pump (1).

  7. Remove the power steering mounting bolts from the power steering pump.
  8. Remove the power steering pump.
  9. Remove the power steering pump reservoir from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle (CB Series) .
  10. Remove the power steering pump pulley from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pulley Replacement (LY7)  or Power Steering Pulley Replacement (3.8L) .
