Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6, 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, and 2006 Buick Terraza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Position the engine front cover gasket to the engine block.
  2. Install the engine front cover.

    IMPORTANT: Apply sealer to the shaded bolts (1) in the graphic. Failure to do so may result in engine coolant leakage from the bolt holes passing through the water jacket.
  3. Install the engine front cover bolts.

    Tighten:   Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).

  4. Install water pump. Refer to WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT - LZ9 (3.9L) .
  5. Install the thermostat housing. Refer to THERMOSTAT HOUSING REPLACEMENT - LZ9 (3.9L) .
  6. Install camshaft position actuator magnet. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Replacement .
  7. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  8. Install oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  9. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
  10. Fill cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM (STATIC FILL) .
