Measurement Procedure

- Place the transmission in NEUTRAL.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Clean the surface of the propeller shaft front CV joint housing just rear of the transfer case output flange.
- Mount a dial indicator set, J 7872 or equivalent and position the dial indicator to contact the propeller shaft front CV joint housing as close to the transfer case output flange as possible.
- Rotate the transfer case output flange by hand to locate the low spot.
- Set the dial indicator to zero on the low spot.
- Rotate the transfer case output flange by hand and record the amount of radial runout.
- Compare the runout of the transfer case output flange to the following specification:
Specification: Transfer case output flange maximum allowable runout 0.15 mm (0.006 in).
- If the transfer case output flange runout exceeds the specification, the flange requires replacement.
