Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6, 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, and 2006 Buick Terraza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the rear wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the brake caliper and support the bake caliper. Do not disconnect the bake hose. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement - Rear .
  4. Remove the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Rear .
  5. Remove the brake rotor.
  6. Remove the tie rod from the knuckle. Refer to Tie Rod Replacement (Front Wheel Drive)  or Tie Rod Replacement (All Wheel Drive) .

  7. Disconnect the stabilizer shaft link at the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .
  8. Disconnect the drive axle from the wheel bearing/hub. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Rear .
  9. Position the park brake cable and the park brake cable bracket aside.
  10. Remove the wheel bearing and the backing plate. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (Independent Rear Suspension)  or Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (Without Independent Rear Suspension) .

  11. Use a utility stand in order to support the lower control arm.
  12. Disconnect the height sensor link from the lower control arm as necessary.
  13. Disconnect the shock absorber from the lower control arm. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (Front Wheel Drive)  or Shock Absorber Replacement (All Wheel Drive) .

  14. Disconnect the upper control arm from the knuckle. Refer to Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement .

  15. Using the J 41820  , disconnect the lower ball joint from the knuckle.
  16. Remove the knuckle from vehicle.
  17. Remove the wheel speed sensor connector bracket from the knuckle.
