Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6, 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, and 2006 Buick Terraza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the rear wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the brake caliper and support the brake caliper. Do not disconnect the brake hose. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement - Rear .
  4. Disconnect the tie rod from the knuckle. Refer to Tie Rod Replacement (Front Wheel Drive)  or Tie Rod Replacement (All Wheel Drive) .

  5. Use a utility stand in order to support the lower control arm.

  6. Disconnect the height sensor link from the lower control arm.
  7. Disconnect the shock absorber from the lower control arm. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (Front Wheel Drive)  or Shock Absorber Replacement (All Wheel Drive) .

  8. Use the J 41820  in order to disconnect the ball joint from the knuckle.

  9. Remove the lower ball joint nut.
  10. Use the utility stand in order to lower the control arm and relieve the coil spring tension.

    NOTE: Refer to Avoid Chipping or Scratching the Coating Notice .
  11. Carefully remove the coil spring and jounce bumper.
  12. Remove the spring insulator (2).
  13. Remove the lower control arm.
