Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to FUEL INJECTOR SIGHT SHIELD REPLACEMENT .
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) .
  3. Remove the air cleaner inlet duct. Refer to AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT REPLACEMENT .
  4. Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  5. Remove the spark plug wire clip from the support.
  6. Reposition the spark plug wires out of the way.

  7. Disconnect the heater outlet hose quick connect fitting at the thermostat bypass pipe.
  8. Using J 38185 (SA9111E)  , release tension on the hose clamp at thermostat housing until the clamp locks.
  9. Remove radiator inlet hose from thermostat housing.

  10. Reposition thermostat bypass pipe hose clamp at lower intake manifold.
  11. Remove thermostat bypass pipe to front cover bolt (4).
  12. Remove thermostat bypass pipe to lower intake manifold stud nuts (2).
  13. Remove thermostat bypass pipe to lower intake manifold bolt (3).
  14. Remove thermostat bypass pipe hose (1) from lower intake manifold. Remove thermostat bypass pipe.
