Disabling Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6, 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, and 2006 Buick Terraza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Service Precautions .
  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  4. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center.
  5. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
    6. IMPORTANT: With the Air Bag Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
  6. Locate and remove the air bag fuse from the underhood fuse center.

  7. Remove the passenger/right lower center pillar trim cover. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Lower Center Pillar in Interior Trim.
  8. Loosen the right side impact sensor (SIS) fasteners, then slide the right SIS (1) up and remove from the center pillar.
  9. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (3) from the SIS connector (2).
  10. Disconnect the SIS wiring harness connector (2) from the SIS (1).

  11. Remove the CPA from the passenger/right seat belt retractor pretensioner connector.
  12. Remove the vehicle wiring harness connector from the right seat belt retractor pretensioner.
