Test Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6, 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, and 2006 Buick Terraza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 2:  This step tests the PSDM for the optical sensor 5-volt reference and ground.
  2. 3:  This step tests the optical sensor 1 signal circuit. While the varying voltage measured on this circuit can range as low as 0.01 volts or as high as 4.5 volts, the average voltage measured is usually within 1.0-3.0 volts when the PSD is moving at the approximate power operating speed.
  3. 4:  This step tests the optical sensor 2 signal circuit. While the varying voltage measured on this circuit can range as low as 0.01 volts or as high as 4.5 volts, the average voltage measured is usually within 1.0-3.0 volts when the PSD is moving at the approximate power operating speed.
  4. 6:  The optical sensor needing replacement is part of the PSD motor/clutch assembly and is not serviced separately.

Measure the voltage between the 5-volt reference circuit and the low reference circuit, at the power sliding door module (PSDM) connector.
Is the voltage within the specified value?
4.5-5.5 V Go to Step 3  Go to Step 7
  1. Measure the voltage between the sensor 1 signal circuit and the low reference circuit, at the PSDM connector.
  2. Slowly move the power sliding door (PSD) from closed to open.
Does the voltage range within the specified value?
0.01-4.5 V Go to Step 4  Go to Step 5
  1. Measure the voltage between the sensor 2 signal circuit and the low reference circuit, at the PSDM connector.
  2. Slowly move the PSD from open to closed.
Does the voltage range within the specified value?
0.01-4.5 V Go to Step 7  Go to Step 5
5 Inspect and if possible repair any damage to the optical sensor harness or connector. Refer to Wiring Repairs and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 10  Go to Step 6
Inspect and if possible repair any damage to the PSD clutch/motor harness or connector. Refer to Wiring Repairs and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 10  Go to Step 8
7 Inspect for poor connections at the PSDM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 10  Go to Step 9
8 Replace the PSD motor/clutch assembly. Refer to Motor Clutch Replacement - Power Sliding Door (With RPO E59 LH)  or Motor Clutch Replacement - Power Sliding Door (With RPO E58 RH) .
Is the repair complete?
- Go to Step 10  -
9 Replace the PSDM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup and programming.
Is the repair complete?
- Go to Step 10  -
10 Re-initialize the PSD and operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
- System OK Go to Step 2
