Test Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6, 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, and 2006 Buick Terraza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 2:  This step determines if the PSD detent switch signal circuit is shorted to ground. If the shorted circuit is within the door itself, the scan tool detent switch parameter will display Active when the door is closed and Inactive when the door is open. If the short is located in the body of the vehicle, the scan tool will display Active at all times. The PSD must be disabled at the multifunction switch in order to prevent the power assist feature from taking control of the door during manual operations.
  2. 3:  This step determines if the PSDM can recognize the detent switch signal inputs. While the door is open or closed, the detent switch parameter should display Inactive. Then, as the PSD is slowly operated from latched to ajar or ajar to latched, the parameter should briefly display Active
  3. 4:  This step determines if the detent switch or detent switch signal and ground circuits have a high resistance or are open within the door. The detent switch is connected to the handle mechanism by means of mechanical linkage rods. Turning the handle and holding it to the open position will close the switch contacts in order to facilitate testing.

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information
  1. At the multifunction switch in the overhead console, disable the power sliding door (PSD) associated with the DTC.
  2. Manually close the PSD associated with the DTC.
  3. Install a scan tool.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the PSD Detent Switch parameter in the appropriate data list.
Does the parameter display Inactive?
- Go to Step 3  Go to Step 9
Observe the PSD Detent Switch parameter while manually operating the PSD as follows:
  • From the latched position to the ajar position.
  • From the ajar position to the latched position.

Does the parameter briefly change states as the door moves from latched to ajar and from ajar to latched?
- Go to Step 10  Go to Step 4
  1. Open the PSD.
  2. Turn and hold the PSD interior door handle in the open position.
  3. Measure the resistance between the detent switch signal circuit and the ground circuit at the appropriate door plate plungers.
Is the resistance measured less than the specified value?
5 Ω Go to Step 5  Go to Step 7
5 Test the detent switch signal circuit from the B-pillar contact plate pad to the power sliding door control module (PSDM) for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 6
6 Test the detent switch ground circuit from the B-pillar contact plate pad to the body ground for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 10
7 Test the detent switch signal circuit from the detent switch to the corresponding door plate plunger for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 8
8 Test the detent switch ground circuit from the detent switch to the corresponding door plate plunger for an open or a high resistance. Refer to the following in Wiring Systems:
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 11
9 Test the detent switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 10
10 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors of the PSDM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 13
11 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the detent switch harness. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 12
12 Replace the detent switch. Refer to Lock Replacement - Sliding Door Rear .
Is the repair complete?
- Go to Step 14  -
13 Replace the PSDM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup and programming.
Is the repair complete?
- Go to Step 14  -
14 Re-initialize the power sliding door and operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
- System OK Go to Step 2
