Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
  2. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (L26 Static Fill) , Draining and Filling Cooling System (LY7 Static Fill)  or Draining and Filling Cooling System (L26, LY7, GE 47716 Fill) .
  3. Use the J 38185  in order to reposition the hose clamp from the water outlet housing. See Special Tools .
  4. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the water outlet housing.

  5. Reposition the wiring harness from the water outlet housing stud.
  6. Remove the water outlet housing bolt and the stud.
  7. Remove the water outlet housing and the gasket.
  8. Remove the thermostat.
  9. Clean and Inspect the water outlet housing gasket mating surfaces.
