Fastener Tightening Specifications: Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications . Preliminary Procedures Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (L26) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LY7) . Remove the air cleaner housing. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.8 L. Position the powertrain control module out of the way. Refer to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Replacement in Engine Controls-3.8 L.
1	Module, Transmission Control (TCM). Tip: Disconnect the TCM electrical connector. New TCM must be programmed. Refer to Transmission Control Module Programming and Setup in Programming and Setup

Preliminary Procedures

Remove the air cleaner housing. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.8 L.
Position the powertrain control module out of the way. Refer to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Replacement in Engine Controls-3.8 L.
