Replacing Valve Lifter: Removal

  1. Remove the left or the right valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Replacing Valve Rocker Arm Cover - Left  or Replacing Valve Rocker Arm Cover - Right .
  2. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Replacing Intake Manifold - Lower .
    3. IMPORTANT: Ensure that all the valve train parts are kept in order so that they can be reinstalled in their original locations and with the same mating surfaces as when removed.

  3. Remove the rocker arm bolts, the valve rocker arms, the push rods and the push rod guide plates. Refer to Replacing Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod .

  4. Remove the valve lifter guide bolts.
  5. Remove the valve lifter guides.
  6. Remove the valve lifters.
  7. Clean all the gasket mating surfaces.
  8. Clean the valve train parts.
  9. Inspect the valve lifters and the cam lobes for wear. Refer to Valve Lifters and Guides Cleaning & Inspection .
