Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Buick LaCrosse and 2008 Buick Allure. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector X1 of the ignition switch.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the 12 volt reference terminal A and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the 12 volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance, and test the ignition 3 voltage circuit for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, replace the BCM.
  3. Disconnect harness connector X1 of the BCM. Connect the harness connector of the ignition switch.
  4. Test for less then 1 ohm of resistance between the 12 volt reference circuit terminal 25 and ignition 3 voltage terminal 23 with the ignition switch in the ACCY and RUN positions.
    • If greater than the specified range in either position, test the ignition 3 voltage circuit for open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the ignition switch.
  5. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper between B+ and the 12 volt reference circuit terminal 25 of BCM harness connector X1.
  6. With the ignition switch in the OFF and START positions, test for less than 1 volt between ignition 3 voltage circuit terminal 23 of BCM connector X1 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ignition 3 voltage circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the ignition switch.
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the BCM.
