Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Buick LaCrosse and 2008 Buick Allure. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (L26, LY7 GE 47716 Fill)  or Cooling System Draining and Filling (L26 Static Fill)  or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LY7 Static Fill)  or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LS4 GE47716 Fill)  or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LS4 Static Fill) .
  2. IMPORTANT: Do NOT separate the upper and lower intake manifolds.
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold with the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the surge tank hose from the thermostat.

  6. Remove the coolant pipe/thermostat housing bolt (1).
  7. Remove the coolant pipe bolt (3).
  8. Remove the coolant inlet pipe from the thermostat housing.
  9. Remove and discard the coolant pipe O-ring seal (2).

  11. Remove the thermostat bolts.
  12. Remove the thermostat and discard the thermostat seal.
