Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Buick LaCrosse and 2008 Buick Allure. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the vacuum brake booster.

    Position the vacuum brake booster on the cowl counterclockwise from the final installation position so that the locking flanges on the vacuum brake booster and on the cowl mounting flange engage.

  2. IMPORTANT: Ensure the locking tab and the flanges are in the fully engaged position.

  3. Rotate the vacuum brake booster clockwise with a ratchet on the J 22805-B  (2). See Special Tools . DO NOT use a flat bladed tool in the locking tab to install the vacuum brake booster. When the vacuum brake booster is correctly installed, the locking tab (1) slides up the flange and engages the locking notch.
  4. Remove the J 22805-B  (2) from the installed vacuum brake booster. See Special Tools .
  5. Install the coolant heater pipes.
  6. Position and connect the vacuum hose and check valve assembly to the booster.
  7. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  8. Position the master cylinder to the booster and install the master cylinder retaining nuts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the master cylinder retaining nuts to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

  9. Install the BPMV bracket and fasteners. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Bracket Replacement .
  10. Connect the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector to the brake fluid level sensor.
  11. Install the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement (3.6L) or Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement (3.8L)
  12. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (L26, LY7 GE 47716 Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (L26 Static Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LY7 Static Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LS4 GE47716 Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LS4 Static Fill)
  13. Connect the brake booster pushrod to the brake pedal and install the retaining clip.
  14. Install the BPMV to the bracket. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Replacement .
  15. Install the left instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  16. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (L26) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LY7) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS4) .
