Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Buick LaCrosse and 2008 Buick Allure. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (L26) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LY7) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS4) .
  2. Remove the left instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  3. Remove the retaining clip and disconnect the brake booster pushrod from the brake pedal.

  5. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement .
  6. Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector from the brake fluid level sensor.
  7. IMPORTANT: It is not necessary to disconnect the brake pipes from the master cylinder to the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV).
  8. Remove the 2 master cylinder retaining nuts and position the master cylinder aside.
  9. Disconnect the vacuum brake booster check valve from the brake booster. Position aside the vacuum hose and the check valve as an assembly.
  10. Rotate the engine forward for service access. Refer to Rotating the Engine for Service Access .

  12. Remove the EGR valve and wiring harness heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement .
  13. Remove the transmission fluid filler tube bracket retainer and position the filler tube aside. Refer to Transmission Fluid Filler Tube Replacement .
  14. Remove the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) bracket. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Bracket Replacement .
  15. Attach the J 22805-B  to the booster using the master cylinder retaining nuts. See Special Tools .

  17. Unlock the booster from the front of the cowl.

    Use a flat bladed tool to depress the brake booster locking tab (1) out of the cowl mounting flange, while turning the booster counterclockwise with a ratchet on the J 22805-B  (2). See Special Tools .

  18. Remove the vacuum brake booster.
  19. Remove the J 22805-B  (2) from the booster. See Special Tools .
