Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Buick LaCrosse and 2008 Buick Allure. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (L26) .
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (L26) .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  6. Remove the right engine splash shield retainers and the engine splash shield.
  7. Remove the torque converter covers. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement .

  9. Use the J 37096  to secure the flywheel in order to prevent the crankshaft from rotating. See Special Tools .

  11. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt and discard the balancer bolt.

    IMPORTANT: Do not separate the crankshaft pulley from the crankshaft balancer. Service the crankshaft pulley and the crankshaft balancer as an assembly.
  13. Install the J 38197-A  . See Special Tools .
  14. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
  15. Remove the J 38197-A  . See Special Tools .
